Traffic Travis
Two names survive from Mark Ling's first decade online. One is Affilorama. The other is this, and it is the one people are usually surprised to find still being searched for.
What it was
Desktop SEO software, from the era when SEO software was something you installed rather than something you logged into. It did the jobs that mattered in that period: keyword research, rank tracking, competitor analysis, and on-page checks against a page you were trying to move up.
It sat alongside Affilorama deliberately. The training taught people to build content sites; the tool told them whether the content was working. A training product and a measurement product from the same person, aimed at the same reader.
Why anyone is still typing the name
Three different people search this, and they want different answers.
| Who | What they actually want |
|---|---|
| Someone who used it years ago | Whether it is still going, and what happened to it |
| Someone who just heard the name | Whether it is relevant to what they are being sold today |
| Someone researching the seller | Whether the track record is real or a sales-page claim |
The third is the useful one, and it is why this page exists on a review site rather than on a software site.
What it tells you about the person selling Commission Cycle
Building a measurement tool is a different kind of work from building a course. A course can be written in a month by someone who has read other courses. Software gets used daily by people who will say so loudly when it is wrong, and it has to keep working as the thing it measures keeps changing.
That does not make the current product good. It does answer a narrower question that is worth answering: whether the person selling it has built things that had to survive contact with real users, over years, in public. The full background is here.
What replaced it
Nothing, in a direct sense, because the job changed. The tool was built for an era when ranking a page in Google was the traffic strategy. The current Commission Cycle method does not involve ranking anything — it runs on social distribution and DM automation, where the measurement problem is completely different.
The tooling shipped with the current training is AI content tooling rather than SEO tooling, which is a straightforward reflection of where the traffic moved.
The through line
Search, then Facebook, then paid Facebook, then YouTube, then native ads, then email, now Instagram and DM automation. Roughly seven traffic sources across twenty-six years, and a tool built for the first of them.
Anyone who has changed channel that many times has been through the experience of a channel dying under them, which is a specific kind of knowledge and is not the same thing as knowing the current channel well.
